Manchester City midfielder Rodri is not ready to accept the narrative that Liverpool is in crisis, insisting that a rather apt description for their recent poor form is that they are “less effective” this season.
Liverpool has been the main rival of Manchester City for the Premier League title in recent years, but Rodri feels it is no longer the case as his Manchester City team is much stronger than Liverpool. The Spanish midfielder confessed that he is only “partially surprised” at the Merseyside’s poor start to the season especially coming back from their quadruple-chasing exploits just last season.
Rodri has told Gazzetta Dello Sport: “The Premier League level is so high that as soon as you slow down, you lose points. Liverpool is not in crisis, they are just less effective, and the Premier League does not allow you to relax.”
Manchester City and Liverpool are experiencing different starts to the season. While Pep Guardiola’s side remains unbeaten after seven games into the season and just a point behind league leaders Arsenal, Liverpool have had quite the opposite start, sitting in eight places on the league table after winning just two of their opening six Premier League matches.
Jurgen Klopp and his men will be hoping to kick start their season when the Premier League return after the international break. They welcome Brighton Hove and Albion to Anfield after the international break and three days later have a huge Champions League game against Rangers.
Manchester City also welcomes bitter rivals Manchester United to the Etihad after the international break.
